Approach
Four anchors for a practice that holds.
A professional practice structured around four principles, supported by recognized methods and active continuing education.
The four pillars
What structures every follow-up.
Therapeutic alliance
A relationship of trust as the foundation of all the work. Strict confidentiality, clear framework, real presence. Without alliance, no approach works. It's the first thing we build, and the thing we keep throughout.
Evidence-based
I work with approaches recognized by mental health research: motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy, intervention for recent and complex trauma. Not a single method, but tools adapted to your situation.
Cross-cultural sensitivity
Ten years of clinical experience in Canada, Spain and Australia. Three working languages. Particular attention to people living between two cultures, two languages, or two life stages.
Virtual accessibility
Services entirely online, no geographic constraints. Secure videoconference platform, compliant with OTSTCFQ standards for online practice. Reduces access barriers without reducing follow-up quality.
Clinical methods
The approaches I use, and why.
I don't believe a single approach fits every situation. My job is to choose, from the frameworks I've learned, the one best suited to what you bring. Here are the main tools of my practice.
Motivational interviewing
Certified by the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ, 2022). A collaborative approach that helps explore and resolve ambivalence about change. Particularly useful when you know you want to move but can't get going, or when several internal voices say contradictory things.
Solution-focused brief therapy
A structured, future-oriented approach that builds on the person's existing resources. Instead of digging at length into the problem, we identify together what's already working, even partially, and amplify it. Suited to targeted follow-ups and to people in a hurry to see things shift.
Trauma intervention
Specific training on recent and complex trauma (Dialogue, 2020). Careful work, at your pace, without forcing narrative. The priority is stabilization and a sense of safety before any deeper work.
Suicide risk evaluation
Initial training at the Centre d'écoute et de prévention du suicide in Saint-Georges (2014), with regular updates. Ability to recognize signals, intervene in crisis situations, and coordinate with appropriate resources when needed.
Deontological framework
What my professional order guarantees.
I am a member in good standing of the Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ). That means three concrete things for you.
First, I'm bound by a strict code of ethics. Confidentiality, integrity, competence, professional independence. Breaches can give rise to a complaint with the order's syndic, which protects the public.
Second, I must keep my competencies current through continuing education. My order verifies this periodically. Part of what you pay goes directly into maintaining this update cycle.
Third, I'm covered by mandatory professional liability insurance. If something went wrong, you have recourse.
You can verify my status at any time on the public OTSTCFQ register.
Clinical values
What guides decisions, session after session.
-
Social justice
Social work is rooted in a reading of context. No one suffers in a vacuum. Accounting for material conditions, inequalities, silent oppressions is part of the frame.
-
Autonomy
I don't tell people what to do. I offer handholds, frameworks, questions. The decision is yours, always.
-
Diversity
Inclusive approach to sexual, gender, cultural and linguistic diversity. Trained in inclusive writing and in understanding diversity (2023).
-
Transparency
About the framework, the fees, the methods used, the limits of my practice. If I can't support you on a question, I'll tell you and direct you to the right resource.
